Thank you for your interest in the position of Director of Place here at the London Borough of Bexley.

Bexley is a small and compact London borough, and the Council has developed a big reputation as a well-run, pragmatic organisation that recognises and values talent. Our position on the edge of London, with easy access to both the city and the countryside, make us a destination of choice for many people. As London moves east, we are increasingly at the heart of regeneration and change.

Our services perform well and we have some areas of outstanding success - most notably Ofsted’s assessment of our Children’s Services as ‘outstanding’ in its last two inspections alongside our sustained performance as one of London’s top recycling boroughs.

While parts of the Borough are relatively affluent, we have areas with complex economic and social challenges – many of which have been heightened through the cost-of-living challenges of recent times. Closing the gaps in Bexley is a priority. We are working to support positive economic growth and position Bexley as an ideal location for investment – the recent launch of our new Growth Strategy will mark a new chapter in this work.

The Council is ambitious for the borough: we are committed to delivering the very best for Bexley’s residents. Ensuring we operate as an efficient and effective organisation while making better use of technology to enhance customer service are all fundamental to achieving this.

Our Future Bexley transformation programme will be vital to a sustainable future for Bexley – enabling us to fulfil our ambitions for our community, while adapting our working practice to meet the financial pressures that all councils are managing. It will impact on every aspect of the Council’s work, and I believe will enable Bexley to set the bar for what a modern London Borough authority should look like.

This is a vital leadership role in realising our ambitions for Bexley. You’ll provide corporate leadership across a broad portfolio of our most visible services – ensuring high quality outcomes for our customers, while delivering excellent value for money. At the same time, you’ll support the delivery of our economic growth strategy to create new opportunities for our community. We want Bexley to flourish, and you can play a key part in making it happen.
